Inspire • Enrich • Enjoy • Succeed

Personal Development incorporates our Relationships and Sex Education and our Health Education. It is central to our daily lives, focusing on promoting children’s social development, including health and wellbeing.

Some issues and aspects considered in our Personal Development curriculum include:

· families

· caring friendships

· e-Safety

· being safe

· health and fitness

· finance

· spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC)

· citizenship and British values

· sex and relationship education (SRE)

These are responded to within a curriculum framework supporting educational entitlement for all pupils and as part of a whole school approach. Issues will always be covered in consideration to the children’s age and emotional maturity.

Based on the themes of human development and family life, RSE is covered within the Personal Development programme of study. This ensures that RSE is kept in perspective and not isolated as something special to learn. It is important that parents also take equal responsibility for dealing with this aspect of learning. Setting what is being discussed in the context of the family and caring relationships, parents can build on and individualise what has been shared at school. We are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers to achieve this.
