Our Approach

At the Federation of Snape Community & Thornton Watlass CE Primary Schools keeping children safe is always our top priority.  We are committed to ensuring that we provide a safe and stimulating environment in which our children can happily learn; an environment which promotes the social, physical and emotional wellbeing of each and every child. To this end, we recognise that ensuring this is the responsibility of all adults within our schools. All members of staff (including volunteers) and members of our Governing Body fully recognise their roles and responsibilities with regard to the safeguarding and welfare of all children within our federation.  Safeguarding is a standing item on weekly staff meeting agendas; including discussion of scenarios and updates.  It is also a standing item on Governing Body meetings and fortnightly newsletters to parents/ carers.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Mrs.J.Wood (EHT) and the Deputy DSLs are Mrs.C.Paylor (Senior Lead Teacher at Thornton Watlass) and Mrs.J.Harper (Lead Teacher at Snape).

A carefully planned cycle of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is implemented which ensures that all adults working within the school environment are fully trained and have up to date knowledge of roles and responsibilities, and the systems which support these.  In addition, a rigorous plan for monitoring all aspects linked to safeguarding is in place.  This is known in school as the ‘1st of the Month Checks’.
