Power Down Pete

Power Down Pete came into school to help us learn how to reuse, recycle and be aware of energy we use.

First he worked with our Y2/3 children in Owls.  Buster and Pong helped them to learn more with their recycling song!

Can you guess what was used to make the cardboard plane, what the pencil case was made from and what can old trainers be turned into?

Answer:  Elephant poo, car tyres and playground safety surfaces!

The children were given a free gift to save energy; their finger to turn off the lights when they leave a room!

Red Kites then spent time with Power Down Pete, finding the workshop both interesting and eye opening. They learned all about ways that we can save energy and reduce our carbon footprint; ways we can make saving energy easier for ourselves and our families.

Did you know... you can charge your phone using the power of the sun by using a solar charger? Just like the solar panels you can have on your house; even on a dull day there is enough solar power to charge the batteries! Clean, green, and renewable!

They played a great game with the rainbow parachute where they had to find the correct world saving cards under the parachute in 9 seconds. Great fun and really informative.

Mollie said, "It was good to learn about different ways to save electricity. I was surprised how many easy ways there are to save electricity in our school and our home. Also, I was shocked to learn how much it costs to run a tumble dryer!"

Power Down Pete then visited Sunflowers at Snape.  He inspired our children with the reasons why we must try hard to repurpose, recycle and 'power down our' energy resources. 'Super Pete', as we are now fond of calling, entertained us with key messages about our environment and how to care for it.
