Inspire • Enrich • Enjoy • Succeed

“Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish.” John Jakes

Our Writing curriculum intends to motivate, engage and challenge all pupils, empowering them to develop the skills to effectively convey their thoughts, ideas, emotions, knowledge and understanding to others. We aim to build children’s stamina for writing; their vocabulary and grammatical knowledge; and foster a culture where children take pride in their writing.

We have a well organised Writing curriculum which offers purposeful opportunities to develop writing and conversation so children become confident and enthusiastic writers across the curriculum.

In line with the National Curriculum for English 2014, it is our intent that by the time children leave our school they will:

  • Understand, appreciate and have acquired rich vocabulary, grammatical knowledge and linguistic principles which they can apply independently to writing and spoken language;
  • Be able to write clearly, accurately, coherently, adapting their language and style for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences;
  • Be confident and independent writers, effectively applying their writing knowledge and skill to their future learning, drawing upon strategies for proof-reading, editing and improving their writing;
  • Achieve success through the written and spoken word.
