Allergy Awareness

School Allergy Policy

At our school, the health, safety and wellbeing of all members of our community is a priority. We recognise that children, staff and visitors may have allergies, including severe allergies that can result in anaphylaxis, and we take steps to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

As an allergy-aware school, we work closely with parents, carers and healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate support is in place for anyone with a diagnosed allergy. Individual Healthcare Plans are developed where required, and procedures are in place to manage allergies safely across the school day.

Staff receive appropriate training to recognise the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and to respond promptly and effectively in an emergency. This includes training in the administration of adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPens) where necessary.

Emergency medication, including EpiPens, is stored securely and is easily accessible in line with current guidance and individual healthcare plans. Clear emergency procedures are followed in the event of an allergic reaction, including the administration of medication and contacting emergency services where appropriate.

We ask all members of our school community to be mindful of the needs of others and to support our allergy-aware approach. By working together, we can help ensure that our school remains a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for children, staff and visitors alike.
